What
is pay-per-click advertising?
Pay-per-click (PPC abbreviated)
advertising is a way to get guaranteed targeted web traffic to your site
almost immediately as opposed to search engine optimization which isn't
guaranteed and can take a lot of time. PPC advertising is setup in an
auction format in which you compete with other advertisers for keywords.
For example, if you're site was selling vacuum cleaners then you would
want to bid on "buy a vacuum cleaner", and when you bid on that term
your ad placement on the search results page would depend on how much
you bid for that term. PPC marketing has become one of the best ways for
businesses to gain immediate exposure.
How much does
PPC advertising cost?
Costs can vary quite a bit
depending on what words you're bidding on. Minimum costs per click can
be as little as $.05 while costs for the most coveted keywords can be as
much as $10/click. Depending on the words you choose, you should be able
to get quality traffic to your site for anywhere between $.07 and $.25
per click.
Where should I
go to start a PPC advertising account and start sending targeted traffic
to my website?
The two most popular and best PPC
search engines are Google
Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing.
It only costs $5 to start a Google Adwords account and it's free to
start an account with Yahoo Search Marketing. Of course, you will need
to learn how to use these systems in order to build effective ad
campaigns. For Google
Adwords, go to Google's
Adwords Learning
Center for free tutorials and information.
Yahoo Search Marketing has an option in which they
will setup a campaign for you at a cost of $149. If you want to
get started right away and you don't want to spend a lot of time
learning how to setup an account then paying the $149 is not a
bad option. However, if you would rather learn it yourself then you can
take a look at the free
Yahoo
Search Marketing tutorials.
MSN is soon to come out with their MSN AdCenter
which will probably be somewhat similar to Google. We'll write more
about this as it develops.
What about other search engines
besides Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing?
To get started we recommend sticking with the real
heavyweights of search which are Google Adwords and Yahoo Search
Marketing. Starting some ad campaigns with them will give you valuable
experience and you can always try some of the smaller search engines
later. The problem with smaller search engines is that the quality of
the web traffic is not as good. To begin, stick with the top 2 and
you'll be glad you did.
Good Luck and All the Best,
